He Chose Status. I Was the Status.

The story

Julian plans to marry a "suitable" socialite while keeping Alyssa, his supposedly penniless girlfriend of five years, as a secret mistress. He never checks her background. Alyssa is the crown princess of New York's richest empire. She vanishes from his life and reappears across the negotiation table as the CEO who can bankrupt his dynasty. Julian traded love for status—without realizing she was the status.
